This term in Beech we have lots of great learning opportunities and experiences planned. We are a class of key stage 4 pupils and we follow the ‘Moving On’ Equals Curriculum which is designed to support our young people as they continue to develop skills in Maths, English, ICT alongside Vocational Studies; World Studies and independent living skills.

Pupils are supported individually or in small groups throughout all lessons; identifying what is important to them, what they want to learn. and working hard to increase their independence and self-help skills each day, including communicating choices.

Time is allocated for each child to read with an adult and to listen to shared stories and longer texts.

Phonics is also taught daily and students are grouped according to ability across the Department.

Learning This Term in Beech Class

This term, pupils will take part in a wide range of practical, engaging and meaningful learning experiences. All learning is supported by visual, sensory and practical approaches to ensure pupils can access learning at their own level.

Work this term includes:

• · Maths for life: using number and number systems.
• · Literacy: we have a focus on literature from other cultures. our class texts are "Supa Nova" by Chante Timothy and we will be studying a traditional tale with a Spanish origin "the legend of the spider".
• · Technology: changing simple and basic recipe's
• · Creativity: Sculpture and 3D art.
• · PSHE: personal hygiene
• · Cultural Studies: Spain and the Spanish language.

Some of our learning takes place outside of the classroom; please make sure you send in spare clothes, and items such as a rain jacket/ hat/ PE kit to support with

independence skills. Can I ask that all equipment and clothing is clearly marked. Your child will have a locker and coat peg to keep belongings during the school day and they will be both supported and encouraged to be as independent as possible with their personal items.
