WELCOME TO APPLE CLASS

Apple

Apple Class is a very happy class of nine EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) learners whose learning activities are delivered through a multi-sensory approach.

Our EYFS curriculum is shaped by seven important and interconnected areas of learning. These are divided into three Prime Areas:

  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development

and four Specific Areas:

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

The children engage in rich learning opportunities across all seven areas, with the three Prime Areas underpinning and supporting all learning.

Learning is enhanced through a variety of creative, sensory and stimulating experiences, including Attention Autism, sensory stories and Intensive Interaction. To promote and develop communication skills, we adopt a Total Communication approach throughout the classroom, ensuring that every child can access learning and express themselves in ways that are meaningful to them.

The Apple Class team consists of:

  • Andrea
  • Alex (Wednesday afternoons)
  • Aimee (Monday mornings)
  • Alicia
  • Hannah
  • Michelle

This Half Term

This half term, our learners are excited to explore the theme of "Dinosaurs" through a range of engaging and meaningful learning experiences. These activities will provide opportunities for children to develop their play skills, curiosity and independent exploration across the EYFS curriculum.

Adults will carefully scaffold learning by offering guidance, encouragement and support, enabling each child to develop confidence, acquire new skills and work towards mastering them through repeated practice and enjoyable experiences.

We are looking forward to a fun-filled half term of storytelling, sensory exploration and learning together!

READING IN APPLE CLASS

Reading in Apple Class involves practising early reading skills through sharing and enjoying stories and books together. This promotes the children's imagination, curiosity about the world around them, communication skills and, most importantly, a love of reading and storytelling.

Our focus text this half term is Gigantosaurus by Jonny Duddle. We are sure this exciting story will inspire a wealth of sensory experiences, role play opportunities, creative mark making and artwork. The children will also have opportunities to apply and practise their early reading skills across all areas of the curriculum.

Enrichment Opportunities

In addition to our classroom learning, we have the following weekly sessions planned:

  • The Lightroom on Wednesday mornings
  • The Learning Kitchen on Thursday mornings

Please see our class timetable for further information.

Celebrating Our Learning

In Apple Class, we enjoy capturing evidence of our learning through Evisense. We love sharing the children's achievements and special learning moments with families. Please check your child's page regularly to see what we have been doing and to celebrate their successes with us!
